Approach
Strengths-Based Therapy
Starting from what you already survived and already know how to do.
Most people arrive in therapy with a list of what is wrong with them. They arrive having already got through a great deal, usually without much acknowledgement, and rarely counting it.
A strengths-based approach doesn’t mean looking on the bright side. It means we work from what is already there — the capacities you built, often in circumstances that required them — rather than starting from a deficit.
Who this tends to help
- Feeling like therapy would just be a list of your failures
- Having got through hard things without ever calling it resilience
- Being competent everywhere except in your own estimation
What I use this for
-
Codependency
For losing track of where you end and someone else begins.
-
Women’s Issues
For what gets asked of women and rarely named as a demand.
