Approach

Psychodynamic Therapy

Looking at where a pattern came from, not only at how to manage it.

Psychodynamic work is interested in the parts of your life that repeat. The same kind of relationship, the same argument, the same feeling arriving in situations that look different on the surface.

Rather than treating those patterns as bad habits to be replaced, we look at what they were for — what they protected, who taught them, what they cost. People tend to find that a pattern loosens once they can see it clearly, in a way it never did while they were only trying to stop it.

Who this tends to help

  • The same relationship ending the same way, with different people
  • Understanding a pattern perfectly well and repeating it anyway
  • Wanting more than tools and coping strategies
  • Feelings that seem to belong to something older than the current situation

Questions about Psychodynamic Therapy

Is this the kind of therapy that goes on for years?

It can, and it doesn’t have to. Depth-oriented doesn’t mean open-ended. We’ll talk about what you want from the work and revisit it as we go.
