Approach
Feminist Therapy
Taking seriously that some of what you are carrying was handed to you.
A feminist approach means I don’t treat distress as though it happened in a vacuum. Power, gender, culture, money and immigration status shape what people are dealing with and how much room they have to deal with it.
Practically, it also shapes how we work together. I don’t hold myself as the expert on your life. You are — I have training, and you have the actual information.
Who this tends to help
- Being told you are too much, or too sensitive, for long enough that you believed it
- Carrying the emotional work of a family or a workplace
- Anger you have never felt allowed to have
- Wanting a therapist who won’t treat culture as a side note
What I use this for
-
Domestic & Intimate Partner Violence
For what a relationship did to you, whether you are still in it or long out of it.
-
Multicultural & Latina Identity
For the parts of yourself that don’t translate the same way in every room you’re in.
-
Women’s Issues
For what gets asked of women and rarely named as a demand.
