Online Therapy in Virginia
I am licensed in Virginia and see adults anywhere in the state by secure video. My work centers on trauma, relationships, and the patterns that outlast the situations that created them.
All sessions are held online by secure video. I am licensed in Pennsylvania and Virginia, and can work with adults living anywhere in Virginia. $160 per 50 minute session.
Therapy in Virginia
Virginia is a difficult state in which to find a therapist, and the difficulty is well documented. The Commonwealth meets roughly 22 percent of its psychiatric workforce need, and only about one in five Virginians receive the care they need. In practice this shows up as waitlists measured in months — in Hampton Roads, in Charlottesville, and in much of Northern Virginia.
It also shows up in a way that is directly relevant to how I practice. Virginians go out of network for mental health care roughly six and a half times more often than they do for physical health care. I don’t take insurance and I provide a superbill for reimbursement; in Virginia that is close to the norm rather than an exception, largely because in-network availability so often does not exist.
Working by video removes the part of this that is about geography. Someone in Prince William County has the same access to me as someone in Richmond or on the Eastern Shore. It does not remove the cost, and I would rather be straightforward about that than not.
Virginia is also a genuinely multicultural state, particularly along the Route 1 and I-66 corridors in the north, where immigrant and second-generation families make up a substantial share of the population. A large part of my career has been spent working with the Latino community, and much of what I hear in that work — obligations that run in several directions at once, translating for a family since childhood, holding a history you did not live through — is common in Virginia and rarely met by someone who does not need it explained.

Questions about therapy in Virginia
Do I have to live in Virginia to work with you?
You need to be physically located in Virginia or Pennsylvania during our sessions, because that is where I am licensed. Where you are matters more than where your mail goes — if you live in Virginia but travel often, it is worth mentioning early so we can plan around it.
Do you take Virginia insurance plans?
I do not accept insurance. I provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. Many Virginia plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network mental health care; it is worth calling the number on your card and asking specifically about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits before we begin.
